The hunger strike is meant to oppose the imprisonment, torture, and murder of over 40,000 political prisoners in Iran. The hunger strikers demands are to send a delegation of lawyer Leonard Weinglass and doctor John Champlin and other international observers to investigate the condition of Iranian political prisoners; stop the torture of Iran's 40,000 political prisoners; and release of all political prisoners.

The Iranian Student Association informs the public that despite the Shah of Iran's propaganda, the people of Iran are suffering due to oppression, poverty, and poor living conditions. The demands of the Iranian Student Association in relation to the protest are the publication of a complete list of expenses in connection with the 2,500th celebration festivities of the Persian Empire and an explanation by the joint U.S.-Iranian Committee of the 2,500 Anniversary of the Persian Empire to indicate the sources of the expenses.
